About

Hello and welcome! I’m Kayleigh Shannon and my pronouns are she/they. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 19 years. I’m queer and love specializing in gender-affirming hair care.

I love to sing, play Animal Crossing, read tarot cards for people, and hang out with my four cats.

My studio is located at 124 Pearl Street, Suite 405, Ypsilanti, MI. Directions and details will be sent via email upon booking confirmation.

Everyone deserves compassion and good hair.

COVID Compliant

I am fully committed to doing my part in stopping the spread of the virus. In my studio, you can expect a freshly sanitized work station. Surfaces, tools, and chair are sterilized with Barbicide between each client. I comply with all CDC, State of Michigan, LARA, and Department of Health and Human service guidelines and regulations. Everyone in my household is fully vaccinated.

Strands for Trans

My services are inclusive to all race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, sexual orientation, or military status.

Haircuts are historically gendered: Salons for women. Barbershops for men. This leaves the trans community feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and unsure. Strands For Trans’ mission is to create more trans-friendly barbershops and hair salons. The barber pole is an iconic symbol for barbershops everywhere. Now, it can be a symbol for change. Inspired by the trans flag, the new design is a signal to trans people that they can feel safe, comfortable, and welcome in my chair.

Providing comfortable, relaxing, gender-affirming services for my clients is paramount.

Wigz 4 Kids

I feel immense joy providing hair donation haircuts to my clients. I work directly with Wigs 4 Kids, which is a local grassroots non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides wigs and support services at no charge to children and young adults experiencing hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other disorders. Their wig recipients range in age from 3 to 18, and are located throughout Michigan.
